How Jasmine and Josiah Found Leadership through Recovery

“I developed decisiveness and taking the initiative and just being a good role model for those around me.”  Jasmine

“I developed decisiveness and taking the initiative and just being a good role model for those around me.”  Jasmine

Recovery has taught me to persevere. Before recovery, I was directionless and simply living from day to day without any real understanding of what I wanted to do. Now, not only do I have direction, but I also have the determination to finish things that I start.”  Josiah

After attending the Central Texas African American Family Support Conference, Jasmine and Josiah talked with CforR volunteer coordinator Arza Demi about the possibility of starting an All-Recovery Group focused on providing recovery support for the black community.

Jasmine and Josiah had recently received their RSPS training at the CforR Peer Leadership Academy and recognized that “their community” was unaware that a place like CforR existed that could support black people in recovery. They worked together to develop the preamble, agreements, and purpose for the Recovery Works support group.
