Denise Kilpatrick

Being a volunteer really helped me find purpose in life and that made a huge impacted on my own recovery.

Hello recovery people. My name is Denise Kilpatrick and I want to share some of my experience as a volunteer at Communities for Recovery. First what inspired me to become a volunteer…well I just wanted the free t-shirt…just kidding…

What I really needed was a place I could find a purpose and a community that would support me in my recovery and after my first meeting with my Peer Recovery Coach, I knew instantly that this was a place I wanted to part of.

Being a volunteer really helped me find purpose in life and that made a huge impacted on my own recovery. I really thrived when I felt like I was having a direct impact on others that were dealing in addiction. It made me humble and made me appreciate the simple things in life.

If someone new to recovery sees this, the first thing I would say is to get lined up with Communities for Recovery and sign up to volunteer and get a Recovery Coach, it was the best decision I have made in a long time!!!

I am honored to be recognized with Presidents Volunteer Award for my work as a volunteer.

It was a really nice surprise to be acknowledged for something I never expected, and truth be known, volunteering did as much for my recovery as I did as a volunteer, probably more.

Thank you Arza and Communities for Recovery for all you have done for me!
