Peer Recovery Coach Institute
The Peer Recovery Coach Institute is a five-day training designed for people who live with substance use who would like to serve others. As a participant you’ll learn about the science of addiction and the prevalence of dual disorders, increase interpersonal communication skills by practicing methods such as motivational interviewing, and develop tools necessary to coach other men and women through the various stages of recovery. This training provides a basic understanding of crisis intervention and how to respond in a crisis situation. Emphasis is placed on the ethical guidelines for Peer Recovery Coaches and enhancing cultural competency.
The peer recovery coach Institute provided me with a foundation of knowledge to begin performing the role of peer support specialist and to take the certification test with confidence. I learned the person-centered approach and the framework of social support which instilled me with confidence and a sense of purpose. Becoming a Peer Recovery Coach has given me a career in which my personal passions, lived experience, and acquired skills are all aligned in the work I do! -Bob Sepulveda, Peer Recovery Coach Coordinator
